Quality Electrodynamics is searching for an NPI Materials Leader

JOB SUMMARY

The New Products Introduction (NPI) Materials Leader fulfills a critical role in the development and delivery of new products and major product changes into manufacturing. Responsibilities span across multiple disciplines and include sourcing, procurement, materials tracking and engineering inventory control. As a key player in QED’s Supply Chain and NPI Cross-Functional Team (CFT), will own the sourcing, procurement and tracking of materials in alignment with critical project deliverables such as prototype, pilot and production builds. Develops and utilizes a Plan-For-Every-Part (PFEP) methodology to ensure that all parts are properly sourced on time to qualified suppliers providing the best quality and cost to QED.

As an individual contributor to NPI and major product change projects the NPI Materials Leader must develop relationships with employees and suppliers, coach value and provide clear direction to indirect reports to achieve project goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain and improve the process with engineering to obtain a regularly updated bill of material for NPIs throughout the development cycle
  • Evaluate and present sourcing options to the NPI cross-functional team and leadership in alignment with supply chain and NPI project goals and objectives
  • Negotiation best price, lead time and terms with strategic suppliers to meet material delivery and cost targets for prototype, pilot and production of NPI projects
  • Develop and maintain relationships with strategic suppliers through supplier visits and “face to face” meetings
  • Support the identification of new suppliers and the evaluation of new parts from existing suppliers to ensure they meet company and product requirements. Track qualification of suppliers, parts and tooling
  • Evaluate, improve and maintain standard methods for tracking, measuring and presenting NPI sourcing and material activity for regular updates to CFTs and leaders. Use of leading indicators will be required to indicate activity status to schedule goal
  • Evaluate, improve and maintain the existing material inventory control system for pre-production materials in coordination with procurement, warehouse and quality teams
  • Take proactive initiative to resolve problems in NPI material, inventory and sourcing areas that affect project schedules
  • Drive innovation and process improvements on a continual basis to surrounding work
  • Utilize best practice project management tools and communication methods for planning, organizing and executing key business initiatives
  • Ensure compliance to quality system requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience

Required

  • Bachelor Degree in Science, Business, Supply Chain Management or related field
  • 5-8 years’ experience in procurement, sourcing and material roles
  • New product development roles
  • Development and/or improvement of processes, tracking tools and metrics
  • Preparation of data and presentation to small groups and leadership
  • ERP/MRP software, Microsoft Office and Project

Preferred

  • Medical device industry experience
