Dr. Fujita, in consultation with the Board continually vet emerging technologies for its potential for the advancement of the health sciences and contributions to improved patient care. Mr. Michael P. Esposito Jr., Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Syncora Holdings Ltd.
Michael P. Esposito, Jr. has served as the chairman of Syncora Holdings Ltd‘s (Syncora) (formerly Security Capital Assurance Ltd) board of directors since March 2006.
Mr. Esposito is a former non-executive chairman of the board of directors of XL Capital Ltd (NYSE: XL), a provider of insurance and reinsurance coverage and financial products and services, from 1995 through December 2007.
From 1995 until April 2018, he served as a director of Forest City Enterprises, Inc. (NYSE: FCY), a real estate development and management firm and non-executive chairman of Primus Guaranty Ltd., a seller of credit protection, from March 2002 until November 2014.
Mr. Esposito served as co-chairman of the board of directors of Inter-Atlantic Capital Partners, Inc., an investment banking firm, from April 1995 to 2000, having previously served as vice chairman from 1994 to 1998.
Mr. Esposito served as executive vice president and chief corporate compliance, control and administration officer of The Chase Manhattan Corporation from 1991 to 1995, having previously served as executive vice president and chief financial officer from 1987 to 1991.
Frederick A. Heupler, Jr. M.D., Retired Staff Cardiologist, Cleveland Clinic
Dr. Heupler has been a full-time staff cardiologist at the Cleveland Clinic, in Cleveland, Ohio for more than 45 years. He completed medical school and internship at the University of Pennsylvania, and medical residency and cardiology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. He has performed more than 13,000 cardiac catheterization laboratory procedures and trained more than 500 cardiology fellows in cardiac catheterization techniques. He retired in September, 2017, and he continues to perform cardiovascular consultations.
He has authored more than 75 articles on medical topics, including: cardiac catheterization techniques; clinical features and provocative tests for coronary artery spasm; spontaneous coronary artery dissection; cardiovascular hemodynamics; continuous quality improvement; cath lab radiation safety, and digital image acquisition, transfer, storage and display technology. He has served on the Editorial Boards of both the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and the American Journal of Cardiology.
Dr. Heupler has expertise in quality management, having served as Chairman of the Laboratory Performance Standards Committee of the SCAI (Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions) for more than 10 years; acted as consultant for Foster Higgins, a national consulting firm, evaluating more than 80 hospitals for managed care contracts with Delta Airlines and other firms; served as Quality Officer for the Department of Cardiology and for the Heart and Vascular Institute of the Cleveland Clinic, and provided quality evaluation and technology consultations for more than 70 hospitals in the U.S., Australia, Germany, Netherlands, China, and the Czech Republic. He has been a member of the international advisory committees of both Philips Medical Systems and Siemens Medical Systems. He was Program Director for the Department of Cardiology for 10 years, responsible for the recruiting, selection, and education program of more than 250 Cardiology fellows during this interval.
His Research and Development innovations include: introducing a new medical test (ergonovine maleate provocative test) for a rare heart disease (coronary spasm); defining the clinical characteristics and introducing investigational new drug therapy for coronary artery spasm; leading the team of physicians and physicists that pioneered the first internationally standardized phantom for measuring cardiac cath lab radiation dose and image quality; introducing new cath lab radiation dose-reduction technology, and organizing the PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) that replaced film technology and integrated angiographic and echocardiographic digital imaging across more than 40 medical sites within the Cleveland Clinic Health System.
Dr. Heupler was a major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, with one year of hospital service in Fort Dix, New Jersey, and one year in Viet Nam.
Mr. Albert B. Ratner, Partner, RMS Corporations
Mr. Ratner has been in the commercial and residential real estate industry with Forest City since 1951. He has been involved in many projects around the country. He served as the Company’s chief executive officer from 1975 to 1995, when he, along with Samuel H. Miller, became co-chairman of the board.
Ratner is well-known as a long time community booster for Cleveland and a leader in its Jewish community. He is also past Board Chairman and Lifetime Trustee of Jewish Federation of Cleveland He is a life trustee of the Cleveland Jewish Community Federation and a member of the International Council of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee.
He is currently an honorary trustee of Shoes & Clothes for Kids and is on the advisory committee of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Foundation. In the past, Ratner has served as a board member for civic groups, including the Cleveland Initiative for Education, the Greater Cleveland Partnership and the United Way. He has also served on corporate boards for American Greetings and RPM International. He currently sits on the Governor’s Executive Workforce Board, Board of Directors for QED, Board of Directors for Global Cleveland, and Advisory Board of the Ginn Academy.
Nationally, he is on the board of governors of the Henry M. Jackson Foundation and is an honorary trustee of the Enterprise Foundation. Ratner is a graduate of Michigan State University, with a degree in forestry. He also holds an Honorary Doctor of Laws (1990) Long Island University, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Honorary Doctor of Engineering (1992) Polytechnic University, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (2012) Cleveland State University; Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (2016) Case Western Reserve University; and Honorary Degree (2018) Cuyahoga Community College.
